The ring was a wedding gift from the Turkish great-grandfather of the consignor to his bride in Constantinople. Nuri Kadi (his name) served as a judge in occupied Jerusalem during the Ottoman Empire. This family heirloom was then always passed on to the firstborn daughter at her wedding. The contributor’s mother received the ring at the age of 12 on her mother’s deathbed, but did not wear it until her wedding to her father.
