Transport vessel made of green glazed ceramic China or Southeast Asia 14th-18th century Height 36 cm, diameter 32 cm
Round pot of green glazed pottery with incised floral decoration and four eyelets for tying the closure. Marine find with corresponding glaze degradation and adhering shell remains. Unlike the ceramics and porcelains for the nobility and bourgeoisie, the vessels of the common people are not subject to rapid fashion changes and therefore cannot be dated well. The incised floral decorations can already be found on ceramics of the 10th century and enjoyed unbroken popularity for a long time. East and Southeast Asian transport pots are highly valued for flower arrangements, especially in Japan, precisely because their shapes and decorations are the results of a long evolutionary development that perfectly embodies the ideals of the Mingei movement.
