Ceramic with celadon glaze Sawankhalok, Thailand 15th century Diameter 35 cm Provenance: Private collection Rome before 1975
Inspired by the popularity of southern Chinese Longquan wares, people in central Thailand had begun to produce ceramics decorated with celadon in addition to those decorated with iron oxide in the 14th century. The large plates of this type in particular eventually became one of Thailand’s main export items in the 15th century.
